Sky #29, Highway 16 by

The Sky series began after my last visit to the family cottage with my son, then five. The cottage was sold while we were there, so the visit was bittersweet. The weather suited the occasion – all heavy clouds and drizzling rain – and I carried many mental snapshots of those Saskatchewan skies home But once back in Alberta I realized that these skies are home too, and the series of paintings that began in memory of the lake where I spent my childhood summers evolved to become a celebration of the very different skies that define the Alberta landscape. The brushstroke is rich and active, just like the wind.
