Rest Stop Stained Glass is a painting in my “Entropy” series. Generally the paintings in this series are distinguished by the method, which is first to create what I think of as an “armature” – that is, an underlying support. Normally a term used in three-dimensional work my “armature” here consists of the initial lines drawn – whether by finger painting, marking, or brushing. The work is completed by filling in these “armatures”.
For Rest Stop Stained Glass I was inspired by the scenery on a road trip in Arizona, I began with an “armature” of horizontal lines. The lines and colours represent the layers of the landscape that I observed – the desert floor, red mesa, and distant hills.
