A series of “nest” works began after life circumstances led me to evaluate the meaning of security. The nest motif became a regular part of my art practice as I considered the effects of change and travelled through various life experiences. I used texture to add drama and surface interest, color and brush work to create atmospheric effects and each painting became an emotive and personal expression of a particular ‘season’. In the tradition of the historic still life genre, they speak to notions of strength and fragility, abundance and scarcity.
The forms in the Enclave paintings are inspired by swallow’s nests tucked into protective cliff overhangs.
