Incredible Paintings for a Condo in East Village

In fall of last year we were contacted by the Toronto design firm Oni One to see if we would be interested in submitting a proposal for a new residential high rise in East Village. This was for the new development Verve, which was one of the most anticipated developments in East Village, Calgary. The lifestyle in East Village made this an appealing project, it is an upcoming neighbourhood with accessible river paths, hip restaurants, and the new Calgary public library.

The client wanted to showcase local Calgary art in the vibrant and newly revitalized riverfront community just east of downtown Calgary to keep the local feel of the community alive. ArtMatch submitted a variety of options to fit the requirements for art for the elevator lobby, main lobby and amenity spaces in Verve condominium. Oni One decided to purchase one original painting as well as commission four paintings as their spaces had specific dimensions.

The designer chose an existing painting on the ArtMatch website for the 6th floor amenity space by artist Frances Vettergreen, they also wanted to have it professionally framed. ArtMatch coordinated the delivery and selection of framing with a wholesale framer in Calgary which enhanced the modern look of this painting.

The lobbies had specific size requirements so custom commissions were the way to go for the rest of the paintings. The elevator lobby wall was fairly large so a big abstract painting 80 inches wide was required for the main entrance. Troy Babineau’s bold and textured oil painting style fit the need perfectly and so he went through various steps to create a masterpiece that will hold an impression every time one enters the elevators.

ArtMatch artist Chlan Grant created three beautiful 30″ x 60″ vertical paintings using her unique reverse plexiglass acrylic paint technique for the elevator lobby. Each painting was placed immediately in front of the three elevator doors to give a pop of colour every time one goes up and down the elevator.

The designers were thrilled with the final outcome, especially with the assistance of the professional hanger ArtMatch recommended who also assisted with hanging some of the other art they chose for the building. The addition of local art was a key requirement for the builders in this beautiful new condominium and they certainly got that with the help of ArtMatch!
